The plaintiffs, a group of local residents and legal watchdogs, filed the lawsuit arguing that the land transfer violated the state constitution. They claim the deal, which moved a high-value waterfront parcel from public control to a private foundation, bypassed required voter approval and proper legislative oversight.

DeSantis, responding to reporters, characterized the lawsuit as a frivolous political stunt.
